If you have a Domino cluster failover will happen automatically for you clients, so for the Domino part you don't need to mather (if you cluster is set up the right way ;) )
Your client is cluster "aware", you can find a cluster.cfg file in the Lotus Notes data directory where you will find all te servers that are a cluster member.
If your client cannot connect to se primary server he will check that config file to see which other server he can connect to, and the client will try to connect to that other server.
